How would I go about getting a Bachelors Degree in Interior Design?I will be an Int'l student and have taken TOEFL. In 1 year I would have completed my undergrad studies from India in Commerce field (bcom) and i already hold a diploma in Interiors. I am working currently and have completed one year at my current job with an impressive portfolio. Now to further enhance my design skills and gain a wider perceptive, I am seeking a Bachelors degree in Interior Design and I was wondering if it would require a SAT. I want to get the course done in 2 years at max, as i already have a diploma, i might not have to take all courses. Which universities offer such program and how much would they cost? Also are they reputed and Accredited colleges? If it would be close to New Jersey it would be awesome.. Thanks for helping me make an important decision in my life.

You are right. In 99% of the cases the degree is useless for employment even in New York. Unfortunately in life, we need to remember the difference between play and work. Work is called work for a good reason and there are several careers in which a person can be happy. Try to choose one in which there are good employment prospects, or it will not be a career for you at all.
Art history can help you get into a museum, but you often need an advanced degree.
You can do an applied design: my state college offers graphic design (very popular) interior design, industrial design, etc. You still get to take interesting art classes in other disciplines, but you get a degree with a specific application attached to it. Graphic design has lots of potential, but lots of compeition. Look strategically at minors. I know it's a lot of work, but a business admin, marketing, advertising, or management minor could really help your resume and open up opportunities within your discipline for "upward mobility" (promotions) after you've praciticed some.
Also, getting a "real job" in an applied field, even if it's not your passion, can enable you to work in the media you have a true passion for (sculpture, oil painting, bookmaking) in your free time. Business degrees will help you market yourself and better understand how and where and for how much to sell your stuff: that's where you'll put yourself ahead of your compeititon if you decide to sell your work! (One of the weakness that cripples graduated artists is a certain idealism combine with egotism balancing desperation, it's worth a lot if you are able to distance yourself and look at it from a business perspective.)

Just do it. You are not to old. If you go to school and learn what you need to and then start applying you will get hired. Look at this way. If you were an HR person looking to hire someone for graphic design and you had to choose between two people that just graduated and one of them was a 22 year old fresh out of college or a 40 year old that has a lot of life experience and has settled down, which would you choose?
Interactive would seem to be more forward-looking.
A marketing major in an undergraduate degree is worthless. To succeed you need an MBA anyhow. If you want to do art, do art. You cannot be great at something you don't love. Pursue your art. If it is part of an advertising program, that could be OK — but you will be hired for your demonstrated creativity, not because you have an advertising major. If you later decide to go into marketing as a career, you should go get an MBA.
i saw that speech. it was very sad. i think highly of that man.
I actually major in Business Administration and plan to go beyond an MBA in my university career to a Ph.D level, because I want to be a professor and do new business research to create new analytic ideas. But the general business management can be applied to any area. But if you want to specify in one area, I suggest you complete a "Joint Degree" with another field including your business degree like for example medicine, technology, architecture, etc.

I'm in the same boat BUT i dont think you HAVE to do a course in art and design as long as your doing related subjects?
I read that they prefer arty subjects such as: media, photography, art, graphics etc. So just apply anyway
Just mention this all in your personal statement! I mean i have none of that sadly – you're really lucky to have that! And i live right next to newcastle too though i reaaally want to get out of the north east =/
